Outcome G5.1
General Outcome: G5.1 Uses professional resources, including collegial sharing, for continued professional development.
Today theories in education continue to evolve in support of student learning. While this trend continues, educational research is at the threshold conducting studies and analysis which constitutes some significant contributions for understanding and/or improving educational processes and outcomes. In reflecting on the MSERL Program General Outcome G5.1, I realized that my application paper entitled, "Review of Literature: Guided Reading Instruction" demonstrates my new knowledge and skills in applying this standard. In this rationale, I will describe how this application paper on guided reading research aligns with and demonstrates evidence of this standard.
In my paper I described five studies which would provide relevant information into the effectiveness of guided reading instruction. The information I gathered from numerous websites on guided reading instruction would provide me with valuable insight into both the validity and effectiveness of various studies and the process that researches use for evaluating and analyzing data. Furthermore, I have acquired a wealth of knowledge regarding qualitative methods since my paper revealed that the five studies I examined were based on this type of method. As a result of the knowledge I have acquired, I am competent and better equipped to conduct a research study as it relates to education as is evident in my paper.
The knowledge I have acquired during the process of completing this paper has provided me with the opportunity to join a professional organization where ideas are shared among other professionals in education.
