Personal Crimes Analysis

When the average persons hears the term homicide, they probably think of one person viciously killing another. It is easy because of movies and television for the common person not to know that there are indeed different types of homicide, and it isn't always that they are vicious crimes committed by people with the intention to kill. The three basic different types of homicide are criminal homicides, justifiable homicides, and excusable homicides. Justifiable homicide is the act of killing another person because it is authorized by the law. This would include the execution of a criminal, the killing of an enemy in war, and sometimes self-defense would be included as well. Excusable homicide is when one person kills another with some fault, but not enough for the act to be considered criminal. Self-defense could also fall under this category, or an accident involving vehicles where the driver wasn't negligent. Criminal homicide is the most common, as there are three different types of criminal homicide. These include, murder, manslaughter, and negligent homicide. Criminal homicide in general can be defined as homicides in which criminal liability may be attached.
While homicides are considered to be the worst of all crimes by most, we must not forget the others, in particular I am referring to personal crimes. One personal crime that many people tend to misinterpret is that of assault. While many feel that assault is when one person hurts another, that is not exactly true. Assault is only the threat, or attempt to cause harm to another person, while a battery is the actual act of wrongful physical contact against another person. Assaults may lead to battery, but they don't always result in a battery if no physical harm is caused. Both assault and battery can be directly linked to homicide if they escalate to that point.
