Business Seminar

Getting the Job you Want in Accounting and Finance

On January 18, 2012, The Sophomore Business Seminar- 12SP was privileged to host guest speakers in the field of Accounting and Finance. The guest speakers consisted of a panel of business professionals from various disciplines of Accounting and Finance. The four guest speakers were Dean Grumlose, Siobhan Dinkel, Lauren Adams, and Yana Hubiarnatarva. The speaker’s objective was to share their personal experiences in working in this professional field.

The first speaker to highlight the panel was Siobhan Dinkel. She majored in Political Science. It was interesting to note how a Political Science major landed a job in business. Lauren Adams was a Business Major. Yana Hubiarnatarva wants to continue her graduate studies and get her CPA after graduating. These dynamic individuals along with Dean Grumlose had a wealth of information to share with the students.

One never knows who is watching and an opportunity to get a better job than what one has now is possible. The faster you get your people skills in check, the better off you will be.

Another important tip shared is that not all people in a business or job get along and it’s frustrating. You need to overcome whatever issues you may have with another peer and get through the challenges. Even if you don’t like the people around you, keep an open mind and learn from others ideas....
