Business is a concept that requires the occasional “Plan B”, or a different perspective on how to approach or operate a business strategy. When dealing in business strategy the one law one must remember is Murphy’s Law. This simply says, “What can go wrong, will go wrong”. Once you know that only then will you realize the significance of good strategy in business, because in the ever changing landscape of business you have to have the right ideas which can adapt to the new obstacles, competition and environment that will surround you.

If you find yourself running a business that is not up to date with the times and needs a new business model, then what you need is a strategic shift. A strategic shift is adapting your business to a new business model in order to compete in a new environment that surrounds your industry. For example I used to work at Blockbuster, the largest home movie entertainment company in its industry at one time. Now it is constantly trying to keep its self from bankruptcy, Blockbuster already closed half of their stores nationwide. How did this huge movie renting conglomerate get so low you ask? One word, Netflix. Netflix invented an idea that would only worsen the lazy habits of the average American. Netflix was the first company to start delivering new released movies to people’s doorsteps with no late fees and flat rate.

It was as easy as getting on their website, ordering the movies that you want and then getting back to your hectic life until your movie gets there the next day. Naturally this made millions of Blockbuster loyalists switch to Netflix because of the practicality and easy service it offered.
