Is Technology the Downfall of our Society

Currently there are more than 2 Billion personal computers, more than 5 billion cell phone subscriptions, and countless computer applications in the world today. These technologies and many others are used in many facets of our lives including our personal lives, business, and law enforcement. With numbers like these it is easy to see that technology has become an integral part of our lives. However with all of this technology in every aspect of our lives one vital question needs to be raised. That question is if technology has become so vital to our lives that it is becoming our downfall?

Computers and consequently the internet play such a vital role in our lives that every business and the vast majority of households and businesses use the computer and the internet every day. If you look at businesses today they use technology to keep track of sales records, store customer account information, inventory tracking and so much more. The internet also allows these businesses to transfer all this digital information between their offices, to their customers, other businesses, and even to the government (think taxes).

If then take a look at individuals and how they use computers and the internet you find that many of the reasons businesses uses computers, internet, and other technology is very much the same reasons. More specifically individuals tend to use the internet as a gateway for communication such as email, research of online linked libraries, video sharing and much more. Also consider all of the 100+ million people that use both computers and the internet to electronically file their taxes in 2009.

However with all the ways that we are plugged into the internet, through the use of technology, and all the data that is available on the internet it is not surprising that there are untold amounts of people that exploit these technologies. A prime example...
