Product Chosen
Rice is the commodity chosen for this paper. Rice began as a food for consumption in 2500 B.C. Known as a grain from the grass family it is grown in paddies, which is transported from the fields to the mill for production. Originated in China it has spread through countries through various modes of entry. The rice kernel has three sections, husk, layer, and embryo that come in many varieties, such as long grain, short grain, brown, and white. Rice is a grain that belongs to the grass family. Rice is grown in paddies and is tolerant to water. The puddles in which the rice stalks grow keep weeds from outgrowing the rice. Once the rice is cut from the fields, it is transported to be milled.

Rice mainly thought of for consumption rice is the most important crop in the world. Rice provides up to 80% of the intake in Asia. According to Shilpa Argo (2011), “parts of the crop are used for many different purposes such as mats, shoes, and hats.” Additional uses are beer, sake, mattresses, and packages. Rice provides nutrition but not enough to be considered a main source of food. Rice contains some protein, mineral vitamins, and fiber with brown rice with more than the value in white rice that is mostly carbohydrate.
