The first line of business that comes to mind that veterans would excel in is the political arena. According to the text, "...military veterans come from an environment that is disciplined, that stresses teamwork, and that relies on executing proven systems to produce a desired result" (p. 177). Couple this with the clear love of country and their fellow man makes for a great career in politics. And as Terry Hill, a spokesman for the International Franchise Association says, "they were trained by one of the best systems in the world- the U.S. military" (p. 177). Another great line of business possibly successful for a veteran would be in exercise and physical therapy. According to Buzzle.com, Curves is number seven on the list of Top Ten Franchises in the World, while Jazzercise, Inc. is number four as the Top 10 Most Profitable Franchises to open. It is not a secret to the physical fitness of military personal, and to continue the exercise regimen as a veteran would be a profit to the fitness club owner.

In addition to being “… disciplined team players who show dedication and leadership skills” (p. 177), other important characteristics of a successful franchisee are customer service skills and financial awareness.

According to the text, Boone & Kurtz defines a lifestyle entrepreneur as “a person who starts a business to reduce work hours and create a more relaxed life. An individual seeking independence, freedom and control…” (p. 188). Blake Killian’s online marketing firm, Killian Interactive, would be the best example of this. Killian has created a relaxed environment through online marketing, thus allowing the ability to monitor the business anytime, anywhere and, not to mention, in any type of clothes, including pajamas. Killian has reduced work hours with the online approach to marketing as well as the ability to provide independence, freedom and control for himself as the firm owner in addition to the consumer and marketer....
