· Identify the identity and role of the governmental agency selected.
a. An agency consisted of several centers & offices within the Department of Health and Human Services. There are the Office of the Commissioner, Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, Center for Devices and Radiological Health, Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, Center for tobacco products, Center for Veterinary medicine, National center for toxicological research, and Office of Regulatory Affairs.
b. These centers & offices are responsible for protecting the public health by assuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, our nation’s food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation
c. Also responsible for regulating the manufacture, marketing, and distribution of tobacco products (U.S. Food and Drug Administration, 2012)
The (FDA) of Drug Marketing Advertising and Communication (DDMAC) is division of the Food and Drug Agency (FDA) and has the responsibility to protect the public health of the people in the United States. DDMAC assures that the information about prescription drug is communicated truthful, balanced and accurate (FDA, 2010 Para. 1). Through special implemented programs DDMAC is able to educate health care providers about ‘bad ad’ drug advertisement and the use of truthful and accurate drug information that is related to the public. . DDMAC accomplishes this with a comprehensive surveillance, enforcement and education programs, and by making sure there is better communication of prescription drugs through labeling and promotional information for consumers and health care professional (FDA, 2010 Para. 1).
