3. Discuss the difference between subculture and counter-culture and give an example of each. Discuss a subculture you belong to and explain what makes that group a subculture.

A subculture is a group a people who all share the same kinds of beliefs or views and a counter culture is more of a subset of the subculture that believes something different than the other members. A subculture I belong to would be my track team. We all believe in strength, adversity, and success. We all want to win and run good times because we want to advance to Nationals.

5. Discuss the following terms and give an example of each: values, norms, sanctions, folkways, mores, and taboos. Which do you think is the most important towards maintaing the 'stability' of society? why?

Value is something that people believe in, something they live by. An example would be having the ambition and being determined to do whatever it is you want to do. Norms is the way a person acts in social settings. An example would be when you are at an interview you have to act professional at all times, but when you are at a party you can scream and be outgoing. Sanctions are what happen as a result of what you do when you act a certain way, like a consequence. An example would be like the interview you can either gets hired or not. Folkways are the same as norms but their no consequences. An example of a folkway would be celebrating someone’s birthday and getting them a gift. Taboos are when somebody does something that is really unacceptable by people. An example of a taboo would be raping a young girl. A mores is a more strongly held norm. An example would be using drugs.

6. Discuss the difference between material culture and non-material culture. Do you think our society could ever find a balance between the two? why or why not?

Material Culture and Non-Material Culture are the two categories of culture. Material Culture is things in a society that person can...
