Operational constraints including limited available funding, volunteer boards, low quality internal support systems and over ambitious goals are among the many challenges. Often, mangers are expected to work 70+ hour work weeks supervising and underpaid staff at a salary inconsistent with for-profit and government counterparts. Definition of Term: Nonprofit Organization

In general, a nonprofit organization is one that is organized to achieve a purpose other than generating a profit. A nonprofit organization is not precluded from making a profit or engaging in profit-making activities. It is prohibited from passing along any profits to those individuals who control it, like founders, directors, officers, employees, and members. Nothing, however, prevents a nonprofit from paying reasonable salaries to officers, employees, and others who performs a service for it. A nonprofit business organization is one that serves some public purpose and therefore enjoys special treatment under the law (Citmedialaw.org).
