“When You’re Here, You’re Thirsty” Response

Olive Garden was after one thing, increasing sales. Because you can order tap water for free, many customers opt to drink water instead of other beverage that can be about $2 per glass. Olive Garden was on a campaign to increase sales by suggesting that other beverages should be purchased that were not free. They decided to join with Coca-Cola for a win-win scenario. Olive Garden would suggest/ push Coca-Cola products to their customers and up their sales and in return Coke would also have an increase in sales. “Many customers choose tap water not because they enjoy it but because it what they have always drunk in the past” is a false statement. Customers, like myself, choose to drink water because it is the healthier option. Not only is it the better choice for your body, but it also does not cost you a dime. That quote is false for the majority of us consumers.

The language he used in the last paragraph made the essay seem like a success story when it was not. Though Olive Garden and Coca-Cola may have upped their sales, they were not encouraging the healthy and inexpensive choice for a beverage. The writer “sugar coats” this essay to make it seem like they have the customer’s best interest in mind when that is not the case. The writer uses simple and easy vocabulary for the reader’s eye which makes it easier to understand. It is not too long of an article and is not intense by any means.

-throughout the whole essay was euphemism. The writer does not do a good job of covering up the intentions of the two companies. Example: “less water and more beverage choices mean happier customers”. What the writer meant to say was “less water and more beverage means happier Olive Garden and more money”.

Revised Summary: To increase sales, we are creating a program named H2NO to decrease tap-water consumption at our restaurants. There will be a prize from the restaurant employees that reach this goal. Support UNHEALTHINESS!
