SAP is used by Maersk Drilling as it an enterprise resource planning (ERP) software or solution and by using its application programming, Maersk Drilling effectively manage it’s company’s resources, people, money, machines etc. One of the features of SAP is the database which Maersk Drilling utilises to share data and information between employees in offices and oil rigs worldwide by accessing the database with one click of a button without going from one department to another .

SAP provides access to real time data/information to all Maersk onshore employees in offices and off shore employees working onboard oil rigs worldwide. SAP also used by Maresk Drilling to analyze, certify, classify equipment according to International standards by authorities and business partners and to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.

Equipment data management where all equipment and spare parts in onshore warehouse and oil rigs are entered into the database. All equipment on board oil rigs are uniquely tagged along with a spare part list.

Cost projection when setting up a new plant. Managers will be able to access and look at the cost of building new oil rigs and spare parts base on the past documented past projects

Maintenance for existing and new builds to ensure oil rigs are running with minimum downtown. Maintenance history are input into the SAP for each equipment as to when a fault is fixed, parts replaced and when it was last maintained and the next maintenance is due.

Stock and ware house check and update to account to as which spare parts are in stock and available and to order new parts when stock is low both in onshore warehouses and on oil rigs. When a spare part is needed urgently, the database is then tapped into to search for where the nearest location holds the spare parts in stock thus cutting the time for spare parts to be delivered which then shortens the downtime for oil rigs lessening financial impact on the organization.
