Patient and Schedule Delays Are Causing a Loss in Revenue

Over the last three weeks patient volumes were monitored and schedules were tracked for delays, reschedules, and cancellations. On average 250 patients are seen weekly. US census bureau - state & county quick facts. (2011, October 27), Approximately 80 of these patients were senior citizens and 64 of these patients were late or rescheduled their appointments. Informal interviews were conducted with 45 of these 64 patients and all but 10 said their tardiness or rescheduling was due to transportation issues.

When patients are late, the schedule to runs behind and those patients who were on time become agitated and we risk losing any future business. 10 patients cancelled their appointment with our office that week. 30% of these patients stated that they were taking their business to another imaging facility. Often times the front desk staff is caught in the middle of our patient’s frustration and feels stress.

Benefits to American Internal Medical Services

A company sponsored transportation service could improve patient timeliness, assist our senior citizens in the area, and prevent the company from losing patients.

In addition to keeping current patients happy and improving employee morale, American Internal Medical Services (AIMS) will also benefit in other ways by instituting a company sponsored transportation service. It would be an excellent marketing strategy for referring physicians who have seen first hand the difficulty in getting patients to have their radiology exams in a timely manner.
