People have very different views on the topic of Native Americans and Europeans. People have very different understandings on the topic of the United States land. But really when you think about it that is the whole reason why Native Americans and Europeans had such a problem getting along. They both had different views and understandings in the topic of land and religion. The Native Americans and Europeans never really had anyone test their beliefs or push their limits when it came to their land. When the Europeans discovered the Native Americans that was the first time they have seen things done differently, same thing for the Native Americans.

Land was everything to the Native Americans. Their land resembled their religion, life and their love for one another. To them the land had sacred power; some of that power was put into certain people, places and objects. Certain landmarks, like the devils ridge, and certain people had the sacred power infused into them. For Native American’s to pray or reach out to the power, they used the land. It wasn’t just their land; they shared the land with nature, also with the dead. The sacred power of the land always connected the living to the dead. Native Americans thought religion came straight from the land, if a spirit told them something, than that’s what they believed in. Their religion seemed more laidback, the Native Americans let the power they believed in control what they believed. In no way did that try to change or go against what the sacred power told them to do.

The Europeans on the other hand, did not understand why the Native Americans were so in love with their land. They didn’t understand how they haven’t built or tried to start a civilized community. Europeans believed that the land was not sacred; they believed you had to have a building to practice the power of religion.
