Addressing an Ethical Issue
The CEO of Carolina West Wireless has asked Human Resource Management to review policy and procedure(s) to identify/address an issue which HRM feels is a great concern for Carolina West Wireless Stakeholder(s), CEO, VP of Operations, Call Center Director(s), Manager(s), functional area employee(s), and other vested stakeholder(s). This department has the overall responsibility to provide leadership and guidance in the development, and implementation of the Equal Employment Opportunity(EEOC) policy and procedures while maintaining, reporting, and monitoring of said by answering employee(s) questions or concerns.
Currently an issue of discrimination was brought to the attention of HRM concerning a female employee being passed over for promotion because of weight. Being a diverse company with low tolerance from such behavior, Stakeholder(s) concerns(s) are what litigations address the issues, and what strategies can CWW develop to address with functional area(s) director(s), manager(s), and employee(s). As there are no policies to address this issue it is necessary for HR to thoroughly investigate the matter while keeping the CEO, and all essential department heads abreast to decision(s) made, and how this matter could/would be resolved.
With advice from the legal department it was determine no legal ramifications affects Carolina West Wireless, and further investigation found no evident that the female employee could not do the job that was posted. Therefore HR feels with no legal boundary CWW is ethical responsible to its employee(s). The social stigmatization of obesity stems from societal values on body type which leads to weight-based discrimination in employment (Chernov, 2011).
