I believe that you should consider all of your options. You have the experimental treatment which could lead to dangerous side effects, but it seems like the best option for survival of your sons. However, I plead you to consider the other possibilities that you have. There is another treatment, available as a so far successful study which while it would not cure your sons, it would most likely prolong their lives. This treatment has no visible side effects that are harmful, but it could prolong your children’s life enough until the cure is found or this experimental treatment is studied/investigated enough to the point that side effects are small/known. It is a good way to prolong your children’s lives, at least for a while, until we know that this new experimental treatment can be trusted and it is proven to save their lives. The other option I am talking basically puts the gene that your children need into their body. It is genetically matched with your children’s, but it is shorter, with the wrong/defective parts removed. A great way to explain this would be to think of a spring. It does not work if a part of the spring is damaged right? However, if you remove that part, you get a shorter spring that works efficiently. This is what is basically happening to your children’s DNA, specifically the gene/nucleotide, which is the thing that is the blueprint for the protein your children’s muscles. This allows the body to produce that protein that will allow your children to live longer. However, even if you decide to not go down the study path, I implore you to choose the experimental treatment over the medications. They are not doing very much to help your sons, but the experimental treatment will at least do something. That is my advice, but it is sound advice. You should research the two treatments, in the case that you do not trust my judgment. This will also let you make your own choice, and hopefully, the choice you make will help prolong your children’s lives.
