1. What is the purpose of the cardiovascular system?Carry oxygen and nutrients to all of the cells in the body
Pick up carbon dioxide and other waste products that the body produces so that they can be disposed of.

3. What is the shape of the heart? The heart is in the shape of a pear, and about the size of our fist.

5. Name the three layers of the outer layer of the heart. Endocardium, myocardium, pericardium
6. What does the pericardium consist of? What is the outer layer of the pericardium called? It consists of pericardial fluid and the outer layer is called the parietal pericardium.
7. Name the 4 chambers of the heart. Right atrium, left atrium, right ventricle, and left ventricle
8. What valve lies between the right atrium and the right ventricle? The tricuspid valve
9. What valve lies between the left atrium and the left ventricle? Why does this valve close? The mitral valve, it closes to prevent a reversal of blood flow.
10. What large veins supply blood to the right atrium? the inferior and superior vena cava.
11. Where does the blood come from when entering the right atrium? it is returning from the upper and lower body, through the vena cavas.
12. What do veins do? Veins return blood to the heart.
13. What do arteries do? Carry blood from the heart to the body.
