Riordan’s Finance & Accounting

Riordan Manufacturing has operations in three major locations; Georgia, Michigan, and California. There is a joint venture in Hangzhou, China. Although each site has their own Finance and Accounting department, all three sites take direction from the corporate office in San Jose.

Riordan’s Finance and Accounting system supports different parts of the company’s operation that includes; accounts payable, general ledger, order entry, accounts receivable, procurement, sales and purchasing history, payroll, invoicing and shipping. The way these parts work with the subsystems is that the information contained on them has to be updated and passed to the corporate system on a daily basis.

Riordan manually inputs the important information that is sent to the San Jose location. Consolidation of the close of the General Ledger and the Income Statement and Balance Sheet is tedious and extended 15-20 days after month end. Auditing can be very costly and it is very time consuming. Keeping in compliance with the government reporting requirements is also difficult with the current system.

After designing the Information System for Riordan, compatibility for the other locations became a significant concern. Riordan is now experiencing issues with their Finance and Accounting system because of manual inputs in the Michigan and Georgia operations. The Finance and Accounting Department has problems receiving information from the other locations. With the current system, some of the Finance and Accounting data is provided via data files and hardcopy reports. Some of this information must be re-entered and some data, which is provided via data files, must be converted or redirected to the proper account codes.

Riordan’s Finance and Accounting system is not communicating with the Georgia and Michigan systems. In order for the systems to function in a smoother manner and talk to one another, it will take upgrading both the...
