When discussing groups and teams, one may come to the conclusion that they are the same, both groups and teams share the same common goal, but they are different. A team is defined as “a small group of individuals who work together to achieve a common purpose”. A group is therefore defined as “individuals who are formed to share information and make decisions”. In today’s society, there are many factors that are considered in order for a group to be a top performing team.

As it relates to a team being successful or achieve a high performance, the team should be able to identify such things and the strengths and weaknesses and be able to deliver stable benefits to the organization or company. The individual members of the team should also ensure that their belief in their motivation and ability to with among each other will aide in achieving their goals or tasks. Often times when a team member is committed to working with one another, they are more open to constructively listen to each other. When you have a team that will deliver high performance, you will also have a team that will give support to one another and also recognize the interests and achievements of the other team members. When there is a competitive society, it is important for a team to have the ability to change the environment of business. Also, when in a team the members of the team are sometimes encouraged by each other to contribute the ideas and knowledge for the success of the team. The make-up of the individuals who are on the team often times consist of individuals that have a variety of skills.
