Introduction

Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) (English: Bavarian Motor Works) is a German automobile, BMW entered existence as a business entity following a restructuring of the Rapp Motorenwerke aircraft engine manufacturing firm in 1917. After the end of World War I in 1918, BMW was forced to cease aircraft engine production by the terms of the Versailles Armistice Treaty. The company consequently shifted to motorcycle production in 1923 once the restrictions of the treaty started to be lifted, followed by automobiles in 1928–29.

1. Responsibilities to the operation manager.

A person in overall charge of the operation of a company. Considering the BMW as the base company some of the key responsibilities of the shop floor manager are given below:

1. Operations manager programs typically include instruction in principles of general management, manufacturing and production systems, plant management, equipment maintenance management, production control, industrial labour relations and skilled trade’s supervision, strategic manufacturing policy, systems analysis, productivity analysis and cost control, and materials planning.

2. An operation manager is responsible for the efficient working of the organisation.

3. He is responsible supply chain of the material.

4. He is responsible for capacity management like the inventory control i.e. making the arrangement of the material in advance in the inventory like the car seats, nut bolts etc

5. He is responsible for the quality of car production and delivery to the customers up to their satisfaction level and takes the corrective action to improve the quality of produced cars which is the main motto of the BMW.

6. He is responsible for the proper co-ordination between the all three plants of BMW.
