UNOPTIMAL MANAGEMENT OF WATERSHED , WIDESPREAD FLOODING

Watershed Management (DAS) is not optimal to be one of the main causes of floods and landslides that occurred in some areas recently.

"The intensity of daily rainfall during the flood swept the area along the flow of Solo in Central Java and East Java as well as some other places normal . Most likely the condition was caused by land degradation in all watersheds, "said Professor of Soil and Water Conservation, IPB, Prof. Dr. Sinukaban ride.

Watershed degradation, according to him, causing damage to the hydrological function, reduced infiltration capacity, and increased river runoff coefficient.

This is because the use and allocation of land has been deviated from the Spatial Planning and Regional Spatial (Spatial / RTD) in the watershed.

"The area designated as protected forests many are converted into agricultural land, forest production is being transformed into a residential and farming areas. The condition is further exacerbated by the Spatial planning / RTD is not entirely based on land capability," he said as quoted by Antara.

The absence of the Act Soil and Water Conservation that requires the entire community menerapka soil and water conservation techniques adequately any use of land also pointed to the cause of land degradation in the watershed.

While Prof. Dr. Gunawan from the Faculty of Geology-blooded UGM assessing human activity cause major damage to watersheds that led to the advent of natural disasters, like floods and landslides.
