The worst kind of music…

Hareesh Reji Kumar

3RD BBA

Love songs are the worst kind of music.

These songs affect those who have LOVED in a way that is totally inexplicable to those who haven’t. This affect is more obvious in the case of those who have loved and LOST.

I have often thought that a love song could be compared to a movie in which a character (preferably an important one) is on the verge of death. His entire life would flash in front of his eyes…and he wishes he had more time…and then he dies anyways.

But when it comes to a love song, there is this slight difference to the ending.

What a heart-break-song or love song does is, it brings back the most cherished memories of the time you spent with ‘THE ONE’….or for more relevance here I should say ‘the one that GOT AWAY’-the laughs, the tears all. The fact that they are the most cherished memories also makes them the most painful of memories. So the difference between what a heart-break-song makes one feel and what a dying hero in a movie feels is that in the movie, the hero is dying, and wishing he had more time but the one listening to a love song and really feeling the pain is not dying and wishing he had more time…he is just WISHING he was dying…

It is funny, the way a broken heart finds an almost masochistic solace in the bitter sweet magic of a love song.

Perhaps it is the ‘get inside your heart and rip it open’ quality of ‘heart-break-music’ that acts as a catalyst to increase the pain to such an extent that it numbs your heart. That’s as good a guess as any I have got…

But there will forever be a dull throb in your heart that pulls your whole body inwards…probably to try and fill the void, the blank nothingness in your heart that love has caused…

But then again nothing helps to grieve better…nothing has more meaning…nothing is purer…than an honest to god love song…

And I still hate them all…

Damn love songs…
