In our debate, we discussed the validity of Wikipedia. This has been a heavy topic among different educational institutions who use Wikipedia and those who do not. After research and surveys, there will still be opposite opinions on whether or not Wikipedia is valid. Regardless of whether it is valid or not, it has been shown that Wikipedia is still a source many will use to retrieve sources or knowledge from. Although there will be different opinions on Wikipedia’s validity; making this argument will be based on credible facts.

Since we are talking about Wikipedia, one should not look too far to discover this answer. From our debate, we retrieved information from the actual source. Wikipedia’s disclaimer page provides the following, “Please be advised that nothing found here has necessarily been reviewed by people with the expertise required to provide you with complete, accurate or reliable information” (“Wikipedia: General Disclaimer”, 2012). This statement alone should conclude that Wikipedia is not a credible source or that it has any validity at all. Wikipedia was created in 2001 and has since grown to be one of the largest references websites. “The world’s largest reference site, Wikipedia.org represents one of my favorite examples of how people become smarter through search” (Eli Goodman, 2010, How Search is Making us Smarter). According to Comscore.com, it states that “Wikipedia receives an astounding 90% of its inbound traffic via search” (Eli Goodman,2010, How Search is Making us Smarter). This clearly shows that many people still use Wikipedia even though it is said to not have validity. Now you should ask yourself questions, like “If Wikipedia has no validity, then why do so many people use it?” To answer, Wikipedia has several pros and cons.
