Organizational Behavior

Does the application of organizational behavior in an organization make or break the success of a business? The usage of concepts like decision making, culture, and communication are the keys to a successful company. Starbucks would know all about the achievement of an organization.

In 2007, Starbucks made 5.41 billion dollars (Starbucks Finance, 2007). Starbucks Corporation is the leading seller of specialty coffee in North America. Its operations also include 2,400 coffee shops and coffee stands in the United States and Canada, over 100 in the United Kingdom, and more than 150 in other countries, including Japan, China, Kuwait, New Zealand, Malaysia, the Singapore, Philippines, South Korea, Thailand and Taiwan.

In addition to a variety of coffees and coffee drinks, a Starbucks shop has teas; pastries and food items; along with espresso machines and other assorted items. In addition the company sells many of these products by mail order and online at starbucks.com. Starbucks also wholesales its coffee to businesses, restaurants, and healthcare institutions.

Through a joint venture with the Pepsi-Cola Company, Starbucks bottles Frappuccino drinks and sells them through supermarkets, drugstores, grocery stores and dough nut shops. Starbucks has a second partnership with Kraft Foods, Inc., the company sells Starbucks whole bean and ground coffee in grocery, and merchandise stores. The third joint venture is with Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream which distributes Starbucks premium coffee ice creams to the United State’s supermarkets.

One of the major things that draw people to Starbucks is its culture. John Moore (2006) from Tribal Knowledge declared, “People don’t just go to Starbucks to drink coffee everyday; they go for the warmth provided by the beverage and the store ambient as well” (p.2).
