What is What is autism?

Autism causes kids to experience things differently from the way most other kids do. Often, it is hard for kids with autism communicate and express themselves. Kids who have autism usually keep to themselves and many can't communicate without special help.

How can afterschool program assist kids with autism with their social skills? Children with autism who receives help during school or afterschool tend to interact more with other kids. They also ask more questions and communicate better with others.

What ways can we spread awareness about autism within the community? A lot of people are not familiarized with autism unless they have a child or know someone that was diagnosed. It is important to spread the word through parent workshops, churches, and social network to let people know the effects on our children with autism and how they can help.

How to implement afterschool programs for children w/autism in urban areas? To implement afterschool programs, we have to go to the school board of education to get it approved and ask parents and the community to get involved.

Thesis: There is nothing more frustrating to know that there’s something wrong with your child and he/she is not able to communicate with you they way you would want them to, or he/she cannot play with other children at the park. Depending on how severe you child autism is, most children are often placed in a special needs class. Often, the teachers are not specialized in dealing with kids with autism to understand and to give the child the appropriate attention he/she needs. That is why, it is important to spread awareness and get parents involved in our community to help implement programs to make their lives easier.
