Firms need to define a projects priority and have a strong linkage it with the strategic plan this involves people from middle and top management, the smaller the firm is linkage is not as difficult as to a large firm. Every project should contribuate value to the firms stragegic plan s… plan is desidned to meet future customers needs. Ample evidence is when a firm has not developed a strategic plan that clearly aligns project selection to the strategic plan. The result is poor utilization of the firms resources, they consist of equipment, people, money and core competencies. Organisation that have a coherent link of projects to strategy have more cooperation across the organization, preform better on projects, and have fewer projects.

Firms need to intergrat their projects with the strategic plan. Intergration assumes the existence of a stragegic plan and a process for prioritizing projects by their contribution to the plan. When a firm uses a stragegic plan it must leave all processes open to all participants to view and use this will help in ensuring the success of intraging the plan.

Why project managers need to understand Strategy

When firms move on to doing their strategic planning and operations they tend to rush it through because they have been caught up in the planning and execution stage that they want it finished as soon as possible instead of actually achieving its business needs.
