The USDA Food Pyramid’s origins arose from research conducted in agricultural chemistry in the late 1800’s By Wilbur Olin Atwater, Ph. D., was an agricultural chemist who created and controlled the Office of Experiment Stations (OES) for the USDA. Atwater performed agricultural research, receiving government funds. One of his main interests was human metabolism. In 1902, Dr. Atwater published a USDA Farmer’s Bulletin which emphasized the importance of variety, proportionality, and 3) moderation for a pattern of healthful eating in the diets of American males. Now obesity has become a public health concern the number of overweight Americans is increasing, however with portion control and exercise positive results can be achieved. Consuming a balanced diet is the number one way that issue can change. In order to eat healthy it is first important to understand the meaning of a balanced diet. Healthy eating means consuming the right quantities of foods from all food groups in order to lead a healthy life. Practicing an overall balanced nutritional plan can aide in the total well-being of the body. Healthy eating is normally seen as only a means to lose weight, but in reality a balanced diet is important for the whole body both inside and out.

There are many ways that a person can lose weight and take over their health issues. Just as obesity has risen the tools to fight this problem have become widely available as well. If a person is ready and willing the tools are there, but these tools need to all be used together to have a great effect. Studying and practicing are the two main tools that will lead to healthy body and mind.

There are a few things that one should look into before changing diet and eating habits.
