Functions of Management

The four functions of management whether for a profit or a not for profit organization are: planning, organizing, leading and controlling. “Planning is specifying the goals to be achieved and deciding in advance the appropriate actions needed to achieve those goals. Planning activities include analyzing current situations, anticipating the future, determining objectives, deciding in what types of activities the company will engage, choosing corporate and business strategies, and determining the resources needed to achieve the organization’s goals. Plans set the stage for action and for major achievements (Bateman & Snell, 2009 p. 19).” “The three basic steps to good planning are:1. Which goals should be pursued? 2. How should the goal be attained? 3. How should resources be allocated? The planning function determines how effective and efficient the organization is and determines the strategy of the organization (Jones, George, & Hill, n.d.).”

The URS club is an organization for recovering addicts and alcoholics. The URS club is a place where people can go and discuss what is going on in their lives and feel safe doing so. The URS club has formed a team of people who plan how the club is going to be run. This team is elected by the members of the club. When the club first opened they wanted to reach a diverse type of people so they opened it up to all addictions so that no person with an addiction would be left out.
