Voice of the narrator: The other day I was sitting at home doing some reading for one of my assignments when a friend of mine Bruce came over. He asked how everything was going, and if I was busy.

I said “No I am not busy at all I am just doing some reading for one of my classes at Axia College”.

Bruce said to me “How do you find the time to take care of your kids and attend college classes”?

I said “I manage very well because you see I am in school totally online.

Bruce looked at me strangely and said “You can do that”?

I said”yes” then took a few minutes to explain the way things work.

I said “ I log into a place called my class forum which is also the place my teachers, and fellow students log in as well”.

Bruce said “Oh I see you all have a certain time to meet there kind of like the starting of class”?

I said “no sometimes a couple students could be there at the same time, But we are all there at different times most of the time when we do this it is called asynchronous communication”. I know that is quite a word but that is what it’s called.

Bruce who then sounded more interested in the whole thing asked “So how do you get your homework to your teacher? Do you send it in your email’?

I said “no I log into my forum, everyone posts answers to discussion questions in what is called a long thread. We just keep responding to each other, And it is just like being in a real classroom discussion, Except this is called threaded discussion”.

Bruce then asked “How do you know how you are doing in your classes”?

I said “we have set times after we have everything done that the teacher can give us feedback on our assignments. I can also email, And call my teachers if I am having any problems or if I have a question that I do not want to post for everyone to see”.

Bruce had to leave shortly after that so we gave each other a hug and Bruce said “ I will be waiting for an invitation to your graduation”. I gave a little laugh and said ”Don’t worry I definitely...
