Statement of Purpose: A document of no more than two pages outlining your objectives for pursuing this graduate degree program

Since my sandbox days, I knew I wanted my career to bridge gaps between cultures. I also knew that music was the best way of achieving that. So I honed my skills and talents and worked my way into the ever-exclusive music industry with the hopes of exposing people to genres they would have never proactively searched for. Unfortunately for me, I managed to get my foot in the door just as the industry was suffering due to the economy and its influence on piracy.

This sudden turmoil in the industry caused me to quickly realize that the best way for me to continue my quest would be to learn the business side of things. Understanding music and people’s psychological need for entertainment would not be enough at this point. It became necessary for me to not only understand the effect music has on people’s persona, but also analyze the business strategies and financial queries behind the artists and their consumers. Upon entering this program, I plan to study the organizational behaviors behind operations and decision making as well as acquire the insight needed to establish and successfully run a company on whatever resources I can nobly secure. I strongly believe that this knowledge will directly correlate with the insight I already have on the influence of music on a person.

As an undergraduate student, I worked on a research project which focused on the impact of “Bollywood” in the American and Indian cultures. Although Bollywood is only part of the Indian film industry, it is actually the largest film producer in India and one of the largest centers of film production in the world. However, its increased popularity has allowed it to be influenced by Western cultures and thus begin to lose its identity.
