Google Commitment and Communication

As Henry Maslow outlined in his Hierarchy of Needs, when everything else is provided for, people are ultimately motivated by self-actualization. Google, Inc. understands the importance of employees realizing their full potential. Google is a very unique organization. Unlike many other companies today, the average employee at Google has the authority to lead.

Things are constantly changing in the current business environment. Companies must take advantage of opportunities at all levels. The culture at Google is one that embraces leadership at all levels, not just by management. The company’s approach is to have an army of leaders. Employees are aware that even small contributions can make a large impact on the company’s success. (Karlgaard 2009)

The leadership style at Google, Inc. is one that fosters an environment of open communication. Management at Google encourages employees to ask questions, discuss concerns and share ideas. There is open and regular interaction between all levels. Employees at all levels have an awareness of what is going on in their organization. Because management communicates well and maintains a presence with employees, they have a strong rapport. (Bloxham 2007)

Larry Page is Google’s current Chief Executive Officer. When appointed CEO, he stated that his mission is to make the company nimbler, more innovative, and more appealing to creative engineers with breakthrough ideas. Google under Page is a very flat organization. Job titles have very little meaning. Google attracts top talent because senior management truly cares about employees. (Bloxham 2007)
