My Investigation

In 1998 I was a Program manager for a telemarketing company called Great Lakes Communication. At any given time I could be in charge of any number of people ranging in numbers from one person to 20 depending on the project I was working on. On this particular day there was a young lady who was stationed on my node who over heard two male callers, who were engaged in a conversation that was apparently of a sexual nature, but was not directed to her. The first thing I did was asking the young lady how she was feeling. Although she was crying she did not give me much information to go on, but she did state that it was sexual and that it made her uncomfortable. I asked her if she felt the need to go home while I deal with the situation, and she said no. When talking with the two gentlemen, they did acknowledge that they were having the conversation and that they were not making any references towards the female co-worker. However, the company’s zero tolerance policy for sexual harassment still placed me in a position where I had to terminate their employment.

What makes my situation similar to a psychologist is the fact that I needed to determine the female co-worker’s emotional state at the time of the incident so that my report would reflect any claims she may have made outside of talking to me. Based on the reading in this course I have realized that I did handle the situation correctly.
