The NCAA’s attention was caught when Michael decided to attend Ole Miss at the same time Michaels football coach Hugh Freeze also went to work for Ole Miss. It was a package deal through the Touhy connection. Hugh Freeze did recruit some football players for Ole Miss before he received the job at the University.

Upon investigating Michael and the Touhy’s, the NCAA assumed that the Tuohy’s adopted Michael to mold him into a top ranking football player for their college Ole Miss. Michael began playing basketball but eventually changed over to football. At the end of his senior year he was sought out by many universities as one of the best lineman in football.

Another issue was that the tuohys hired Miss Sue to help tutor Michael improve his GPA. Miss Sue was an Ole Miss Alumni graduate. She tried to convince Michael to attend Ole Miss. She even went as far as telling him her friend who was friends with a Patricia Cornwell, a famous author, told her that the University of Tennessee would “bury a hand and let it sit for six weeks, then dig it up and see what it looks like. These body parts are just below the surface of Knoxville, but the main thing is where they store them, when they aren’t burying them. Right beneath the football field” (The Blind Side, 2009, pg 171). This statement made Michael hesitate to play for the University of Tennessee football field.

The Touhy’s were also contributed large sums to Ole Miss’s booster but the NCAA could not find any booster money was used on Michael. The Touhys told Michael that they wanted to adopt him and this would not cast suspicions on Michael if he decided to attend Ole Miss.

Michael saw himself playing for Oklahoma. Champion ship winning coaches such as Nick Saban and Phil Fumer were trying to recruit Michael. He did make several visits to other colleges including Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, North Carolina, Tennessee, LSU, and Ole Miss. He spoke with his couch Hugh Freeze...
