My life-long dream has always been to open up my own restaurant simply for two reasons one I can be my own boss and secondly I can create a comfortable environment to make others happy and give them a sort of safe haven. But without any knowledge a dream doesn’t take you too far, it just turns into hopes at that point. Accounting for Non-Accounting majors have given me a completely different perspective on business operations on the financial end and also has expanded my knowledge significantly on how to manage the “books” in a business. The amount of knowledge I’ve learned in this course is irreplaceable and I know for a fact it will help me in a great deal in my endeavors as an upcoming business man.

One of the most important concepts this course has showed me were the income statement and the balance sheets. Personally, I never knew how crucial it was to have expenses and income sorted out and filed correctly. I always knew there was a chance if you don’t file the proper amount of money on your taxes than you would be fined or audited by the IRS but having all the expenses and income organized makes everything much easier than just having a load of receipts in an envelope. Being organized could even be a deciding factor when applying for a loan from a bank. When applying for a loan from a bank it is crucial that all the information provided is accurate and being honest as well. What may seem simple and not harmful could mean the worst possible situation for a business owner. Someone who has strived their entire lives to open a business could have it ruined in an instant just by not being truthful to the bank and the income statements.

This course has helped me develop as a student and a professional significantly in many different ways. Coming into this course I knew it would be crucial for my development as a businessman and as an individual.
