Introduction:

When any organization implements a new IT project it is always time consuming, as well as requires a great deal of preparation. Implementing a new project of any kind can’t be rushed. If this process is rushed the chances are the implementation will not be a success.

Rushing the Process

This is the case for the implementation of the CPOE at the Memorial Health System. The Memorial Health System case failed due to being rushed in getting the required analysis, selecting a vendor and signing a contract with the vendor all in a little over a six month time period. I would have made sure to have all the analysis that I need as well as a proper plan before going with any vendor to make sure that I would have got the right vendor.

Progress report

The next problem with this implementation process was when Sally Martin took over the project she choose not to take any bad new back to Dr Sparks and give him update reports of how the implementation process was going. This progress report was saying that the progress of the project was on schedule, as well as on budget. With Successful implementation process in the organizations it does “appear to be a difficult task” [ (Berg, 2001) ]. When you are implementing an information system, you have to “make sure that this is properly supported by both central management and the future users” [ (Berg, 2001) ]. In this situation I would have given the bad news regardless of whether or not Sparks wanted it or not. Sparks is the CIO of the organization and needs to help with problems.

Training Budget:

With the project being behind and the company was about two months away for the launch the budget was already used which meant they had to cut cost in the implementation process. Well with Cutting cost they cut an important cost such as training, this part of the implementation process...
