International Journal of Language and Communication Disorders: Introduction to qualitative research and its application to stuttering

I chose this article “Introduction to qualitative research and its application to stuttering” for the International Journal of Language and Communication Disorders, for I find the topic of stuttering very interesting. It is relevant to me because as a child, both my brother and I stuttered frequently for about a year. The stuttering lasted a year during the age of twelve. My brother, at age 26, still stutters in situations where he becomes frazzled. The article relates to language, for it raises questions about how people who stutter make changes and it explains the things that make it easier to change the condition. It provides research from many researchers who tested their different hypothesis of how any why stuttering happens. They also found their own conclusions for this question. The article stated that successful therapy needed these three components: “Changes in confidence, conscious decision to change and direct speech changes”. Overall I thought this article was helpful to help me research and learn different aspects of stuttering and overcoming stuttering.
