Decision Making Process

Decision making has been around for as long as people have been alive. Making a decision is something that everyone does on a daily basis, whether it is for a personal or business related matter. Each person has their own approach to making a decision, which reflects how the decision plays out. There are many processes you can take to ensure that you’re making the best decision for your problem or issue.

The Process of Decision Making

People all have their own way of dealing with a problem and in turn how to make the proper decision. However, there is an ideal decision making process that people should use to ensure they are making the best decision possible. There are six critical steps in the decision making process that is ideal to use when making a good decision. The six steps included are: identify and diagnose the problem, generate alternative solutions, evaluate alternatives, make the choice, implement the decision and evaluate the decision (Bateman & Snell, 2011).

The first step includes identifying the problem at hand, moreover, what needs to be done. In addition, generating suitable alternatives is always a handy back-up to have in case one of the choices you make cannot work. Be sure to evaluate all alternatives to ensure they can fit and fix the problem that you’re contemplating. The most important step is making the choice, this is simply something only you as a person can make. The last two steps are implementing the decision, which means using the decision and going forward with it, and the final step is to evaluate the decision. Evaluating the decision is making sure you have covered all the basis of the process and seeing that the choice you have made was the best one for you.
