This device is patent-pending.

The device is known as the MEDHED. We are going to change the way your clinic works, by updating you from paperless to digital, and introduce an easy-to-learn, easy-to-use, patient-centered clinic experience. MEDHED is a combination of hardware and software. The hardware consists of a tablet for office use, and several phone-sized devices that the patient can purchase or have purchased by his or her insurance companies. The patient does not need to purchase this device in order to access his or her health records, stored safely in our databases. Installation is tailored to each clinic, to suit any differences, no matter how large or small.

Updating a Small Medical Clinic from Paperless to Digital

To begin to understand the best solution to this problem, I will first attempt to accurately illustrate what a typical first-time patient experiences in an outdated clinic that has not updated to an IT system. Then I will outline and describe an ideal but realistic hypothetical solution where I am in charge of an IT team implementing a new paperless system.

You walk in to the doctor’s office. You have to fill out a long multi-page form. You have to give your NYS ID to verify your insurance card, if you have it. You sit down, and you wait longer than expected, but you know you have to show up on time. This is the beginning of an all too familiar “irritation crescendo” that is just beginning to swell.
