Personal Thinking Styles

In examining the results from the LSI circumplex that I took, I found that my highest scoring sections were not under the same umbrella of styles. The results show that my “primary” or highest percentile score was entitled “Conventional” under the passive/ defensive styles. Under this umbrella of styles, the passive/defensive style is one that focuses on fulfilling elements of security and interaction with individuals. More specifically, the conventional style can be associated with conformity. There is a faction of not drawing attention to one self and to manifest this there is an adherence with policies and rules.

In taking a deeper look at the results, it was determined that my “backup” or second highest percentile score was the area of “Humanistic-Encouraging.” This area is a subcategory under the constructivist style. The constructivist style gears in towards the element of satisfaction. This satisfaction stems from developing balanced enhancing relationships and furthering that into working well with others. It also stems from a satisfaction of achieving a goal or task. Looking deeper into the humanistic-encouraging area, this correlates to having an unconditional positive regard for others. This style is one of unbiased acceptance and encouragement for others to better themselves. This style also envelopes acceptance of one self and one’s accountability.

These two styles of thinking can be taken from paper and manifested into my daily life and work. In looking at the “Conventional” style I associate this with avoidance of taking risks and playing it safe. I tend to do this in my daily life by taking the safer and logical route versus trying something new and risk oriented. I feel this stems from a time element, if I stick to what I know to be right and true it reduces my trial and error ratio. I am not one to take initiative or be the center of attention.
