Question#1- Is there a common reason for the absences? Explain

Yes there is a common reason for the absences. 9 out of 10 children absent experienced symptoms of illness. All of the children absent were members of the same band class.

The students absent at Jackson Middle school were also sick with the same symptoms and members of the band class. The students from both schools were at a May Day parade at the same time, student planning for battle of the bands and both schools competed at battle of the bands together.

Question #2- Come up with two testable, clear hypotheses about what you think is behind the absences. Be sure to base your hypotheses on the evidence you have obtained (e.g., Health Department Restaurant Inspections) and be thorough in your explanation of who, what, why, when, and how to support your hypotheses.

Hypothesis #1

Before May 20th, the band classes at Truman and Jackson seems to have been infected with possibly the same illness if they were at the same location at the same time.

My Explanation of Hypothesis #1

If the Truman and Jackson school’s band classes had been practicing together there could have been in contact with one another around May 18th at a band practice or restaurant, especially since there is the Annual Memorial Day Picnic on Saturday, May 23, they could have contracted the same illness from either a person or something at the location itself. This could have caused the illness end up having a decrease in attendance at only the Truman and Jackson Middle schools band classes. A student from either school could be related to another student from either school and could have passed it along. Friends and relatives often get together at these functions and both schools could have possibly gotten sick from someone or something there.

Hypothesis #2

The Truman and Jackson Middle schools have a high increase in the band...
