Natural energy can be useful and harmful at the same time. Earthquakes and other natural events devastate certain regions of the United States every year. Hurricanes, floods, mudslides, fires, and earthquakes are among the majority of seismic events that we all have witness destroy homes, buildings, roads and cities.

Looking further into Earthquakes, the National Seismic Hazard Map shows us where the majority of these seismic events are bound to occur. From exploring the map the center of the United States is the least likely to have earthquakes. The majority of activity looks to be along the west coast, in California, Oregon and Washington. There is moderate activity in the mid west, central states and in South Carolina. The lay out on this map you can almost see where the plates on the earth’s surface come together. According to this map my home state of Georgia is on the lower scale of having seismic activity, but I do remember in 2001 or 2002 when we had seismic activity and I woke up to my bed shaking about 5:00 in the morning.

Not only is there seismic activity in the United States, but there are earthquakes all over the world. According to the USGS there are numbers of earthquakes that seem to occur in along the line of Island countries in the Pacific Ocean along the coast of Asia and Australia. There are also a number along the Pacific coast of South America and North America. There seems to be very few further inland on all the continents. From the USGS map the noted earthquakes along the coast and Islands of Asia have a magnitude ranging between 4.0 and 6.0. The noted earthquakes along the North American cost range between 2.0 and 4.2, while along the South American coast the earthquakes range between 4.0 and 5.1.

With the information that has been discovered on the seismic activity of earthquakes here in the United States I think I would be willing to live in any of the areas that may have a high risk of seismic activity. I have a friend who...
