n this paper the terminology of Total Quality Management will be defined. I will explain how Total Quality Management is applied and implemented within an organizational structure as well as on the corporate level. The concepts and methods of Total Quality Management, how it applies to the continuous improvement of existing products and services, and most importantly how its utilization continues to better the competition will be discussed in this paper.

Total Quality Management Defined

Total Quality Management (TQM) is defined as “holistic approach to long-term success that views continuous improvement in all aspects of an organization as a journey and not as a shorter term destination. It aims to radically transform the organization through progressive changes in the attitudes, practices, structures, and systems. TQM transcends the 'product quality' approach, involves everyone in the organization, and encompasses its every function, administration, communication, distribution, manufacturing, marketing, planning, and training” according to Business Dictionary.Com (2010). Others that have explored the study of TQM define the terminology as “a management philosophy that seeks to integrate all organizational functions (marketing, finance, design, engineering, and production, customer service, etc.) to focus on meeting customer needs and organizational objectives” (Hashmi, 2003).

How Total Quality Management Apply in an Organization

Total Quality Management is applied in many of today’s organizations. Many companies were impressed with the Japanese and their quality products. In today’s management society experts feel that Total Quality Management is important news that an organization could receive.
