Ethics Game Dilemmas

The issues G-BioSports is faced with is the actions of two employed individuals; one whom has posted a few blogs about the companies products and potential questions regarding its safety. Nothing posted by this individual are harmful to the companies future. The 2nd issue is an anonymous email sent by Jamal Moore, an employee who illegally accessed information from his home computer and bypassed security measures to send the anonymous email to management. Both Aaron Webb and Jamal Moore have violated company ethics policies and should be subject to future disciplinary actions by G-BioSports.

After reading all emails from each party involved, I first had to determine whether any regulations or laws where broken by either employee involved. As for Jamal’s anonymous email, G-BioSports code of ethics clearly states, “Email transmissions sent outside of our intranet raise confidentiality concerns” and “There is a legitimate concern about the security of external email”. Jamal is in direct violation of the code of ethics when he illegally accessed company files from his home computer. In Aaron’s case, he also violated G-BioSports code of ethics by disregarding the section Confidential Information, stating “Also, employees may not discuss the company’s business, information, or prospects in any chat room, or web log (blog), regardless of whether they use their own name or a pseudonym”. Even though Aaron’s blog postings only bring up questions about the companies products, competitors could possibly use this information as vital information for personal improvements. Both cases indentified a violation of company policy and are subject to disciplinary measures. The next step would be how to handle their discipline by identifying all effected parties, ranking them by impact (high, medium, low).
