As we enter the world, we are given an identity and a sense of where we belong. Many have said that the way we were brought up influenced our sense of identity and others say that the environment and those people around us influence on who we are. Where nature or nurture is definitive, it is clear that early influences have a major impact on our sense of self and where we belong.

One may argue that a family into which we are born is clearly essential in the formation of first identity then belonging. This means that our family are the people who are most important when you are forming your identity. This can either be through DNA, social economic circumstances, ethnicity or geographical location. It has been reported recently that genetics link to happiness. This means that when we enter the world your genetics and DNA determines your emotions, such as happiness. According to the website ‘Psych Central’ “A new study by UK and Australian psychologists suggests that while happiness in life reflects personal circumstances, having the right genetic mix is equally important.” Meaning that having a ‘positive’ personality is as important as personal situations when reflected by your happiness in life. Happiness can link with a person’s socioeconomic circumstances. The socioeconomic circumstances of a person such as the location you were born, which person we can be friends or not be friends you and what we want can influence our identity. This means that the environment that you are born in determines a bit of your identity. The last essential thing that creates who we are from our parents is our ethnicity and our geographical location. Ethnicity does connect with the geographical location because our ethnicity is originated from our family’s origin and origins lead on towards family and national history.
