Cultural Immersion Project Part 2 Instructions

Group Encounter

1. What events did you attend? What happened? I attended two events one was the Hampton Roads Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours and the other family dinner gathering of a friend of friend. The Business After Hours event is something that the Hampton Roads Chambers of Commerce members have once a month on the third Tuesday of each month. I was pleased that this event was occurring this week because it was great to assist me meeting the requirements and it allowed me to get a business aspect of the Hispanic/Latino culture. I made contact with one of the representatives and since I am a Director of a counseling agency I utilize this as opportunity to enhance growth for the company as well. I shared the nature of the agency I worked for, goals, and mission. I was invited to come to attend the meeting on this Tuesday to share with the group as a guest. There was paper to complete if I decided to join the group. I took my friend and a colleague with me to the event which was very relaxed atmosphere. There was an opening and introduction of new businesses. I spoke briefly about my organization and what we offered to the community. They appeared to very impress with our various locations to meet the needs of the community. Then there was an opportunity to meet and greet and mingle amongst the other business leaders. I found the experience to be a rewarding and beneficial experience. Everyone welcomed me and was delighted to engage in conversation to learn more about my organization. I walked away with plenty business cards, contact information, resources. I was not aware of how business savvy the Hispanic culture was before this event.
