Abstract
Obesity and Diabetes in the United States has become epidemic. It is widely accepted that obesity and diabetes and the associated complications is a growing health care concern in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention the effects of diabetes can be devastating with complications that include heart disease, blindness, kidney failure, amputations. In fact diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Through my research I will examine the negative effects obesity and diabetes on the health care system and the economy.

Obesity and Diabetes in the United States has become epidemic. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention the effects of diabetes can be devastating with complications that include heart disease, blindness, kidney failure, amputations. In fact diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Obesity is associated with many of the same complications as diabetes and obesity is one risk factor for diabetes. The research used for this paper considers the cost and effects of obesity and diabetes by answering the following questions:
1. What is the cost of diabetes and its effect on the health care system?
2. What is the cost of Obesity in the United States?
3. How do obesity and Diabetes affect the workplace and the economy?
