Hand sanitizer has been an epidemic trend all around in this decade. It is an alcohol or non- alcoholic rub, or healthcare personnel used as a supplement or alternative to soap and water. It is especially handy when you are nowhere near soap and water. It helps with killing bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens that can cause infections. You can see why the need for hand sanitizers has dramatically increased. You can no longer go somewhere without seeing one. Companies like Purell came out with the portable keychain hand sanitizer. What a simply but convenient life essential that has turned out to be. Even walking into a grocery store you can find hand sanitizer dispensers in the middle of an aisle, as well as some public places like at the mall, schools usually have them too. What would the world be like without this incredible invention, that fights off germs. On the other hand, killing 99.9% of bacteria like most companies promise, means killing of good bacteria as well, the overuse of it makes the bacteria resistant. Companies have been advertising the effectiveness of hand sanitizer however the overuse of it causes the bacteria to be immune.

Scientists have discovered that the presence of certain kinds of bacteria is essential for the human body. There are many bacteria that live in the human intestines that contribute to proper digestion. These good bacteria don’t let in bad bacteria and help us digest food that we are unable to process on our own. These bacteria also help to get rid of toxins in our body. Good bacteria improve milk tolerance, cut down diarrhea or constipation, improve immune response, decrease food allergies, help normalize blood pressure, and lower lower-density protein level cholesterol.
