Did you know that 59 percent of Americans own a pet inside the home? Only 41 percent are cat owners and 74 percent are dog owners. The amount of dog owners is so much more than that of a cat, but which one would you choose? Dogs and cats can make good house pets and can be great companions, although dogs require more attention and cats require more cleaning, both have their personal quirks that make them special.

Dog owners in America win the majority of the vote. But not the world’s vote, the amount of dog ownership in the world was 77.5 million dog owners. Although having a dog is a lifetime commitment, the life span of a dog is only 12 to 14 years so it will not be the span of your lifetime. Dogs can be costly, with a small to medium size dog costing anywhere from 7,000 dollars to 12,000 dollars and a large to giant dog can cost anywhere from 5,000 dollars to 7,000 dollars over the span of their lives. There may be some bonuses to the owner as well. Dog owners tend to have lower blood pressure and cholesterol and suffer fewer minor ailments and serious medical problems and are generally healthier people. All dogs are unique in their own way but a very neat way is that the nose of a dog is like a human finger print, no two are the same.

Dogs do require attention every day and can offer so much to the owner in return. Dogs like to play and love to play games with their owners like fetch. Dogs are smart and if given the chance can learn tricks like roll over or play dead. Of course dogs like to get praise and treats for their tricks and good deeds. Dogs also have a better sense of smell than cats do so dogs can be taken hunting. There are even special breeds called bird dogs and they love to go bird hunting, doesn’t matter what kind of bird it is they will chase after it. They may take a little bit more attention, but they will keep you entertained when they are young and healthy. The older dogs get the more they tend to lay around, but they will still get up...
