The Future of Contemporary Policing

In an ever-changing world, and the evolution of crime, policing will change repeatedly. The future of contemporary crime is in the hands of society. As society changes, so will the methods of policing. At this stage in time, technology advancements play a huge role in the future of contemporary policing. Today, police are focusing on crime prevention. One aspect of crime prevention is the utilization of community involvement. Community watch programs, block programs, and the integration of police and the community are imperative.

Crime prevention and the future of policing also involve using systems, such as Compstat. Compstat is a computerized system, which holds the data compiled by police agencies. The data compiled is analyzed, and then used to predict crime trends. This data encourages the implementation of changes that will more efficiently minimize crime and produce a better quality of life for the community, and society.

Technology advancements, as previously stated, will greatly affect the future of policing. The advancement in vehicles used, crime detection, information exchange, and criminal investigations will produce a metamorphous to policing and its methods. Some of these advancements will be for the greater good, but some may prove to infringe upon the rights of others....
