Death of the salesman

There is no doubt that work is an important component of people’s life. Almost every thing in our lives has problems and arguments going around it, also work does. Society plays a key role in those problems and arguments. As a result for that, most societies try to find solutions for those problems and arguments by holding conferences, TV shows, plays, etc… As Miller did when he discussed the problem of the salesman, in his play.( Death of the salesman)

Death of the salesman is a play that talks about a man called Willy, who worked for along time as a salesman. From watching the play, I could see that the author made up a 2-parts tension, The first one talked about people who blame the system and how it is going, and the other one looked of the people who lay responsibility on the individuals only. I think the two parts of the tension drew a big question which “Is Willy a tragic figure”? I don’t think that he is tragedic figure, simply because he is a salesman.

Let’s define what is the salesman; there are two definitions of a salesman. The first one is conventional which is “a man whose job is selling things” , and “my own” definition which is the man who depends on people to market his products and sell them, without caring about moral issues like lying to people about the products, etc. I believe that the second definition applies to Willy from how he acted with his family and how he dreamt big dreams that he knows for sure he can’t afford. In my opinion, Willy is trying to hide his reality and show another identity of himself to the people around him. The author succeeded to hide the reality of Willy, but at the same time, he succeeded to create two personalities that reflect Willy’s reality. The two personalities are his two sons, Biff and the other son. Biff represents Willy’s reality and he represents also the part of the tension that lay respinspility on Willy as an individual. The other son represents the side of Willy...
